PARKS BOARD CONSIDERS RETIRED AIRCRAFT DISPLAY

  

Parks and Rec Council met today (Wednesday) to discuss possibly placing an aircraft, an F1-11, in Firemen’s Park. Mr. Don Holley, veteran, says that having this aircraft in a local park would be “A piece of history that will go on forever” and believes that this task should be done now.

 

There are still financial questions at hand. The aircraft weighs 41 thousand pounds and just the cost of transporting the aircraft to Firemen’s Park could cost around $50,000. Funds will be raised privately.

Several locations have been brought up in consideration on where to place this aircraft. The main focus would be to place it as close to Veteran’s Memorial Plaza as possible.

The Park and Rec Council approved progressing with this project.

Also at the meeting, Uri Geva, founder and owner of the Brazos Valley Bombers presented the suggestion of starting a new baseball franchise here in Brenham. Geva would like the organization to utilize the Fireman’s Park Baseball Complex and suggests a 5 year agreement.

According to Geva, this team would be made up from players all over.

 

The Brazos Valley Bombers and this possible new team would play in the same league. The team would play 60 games over the span of 70 days.

The Park and Rec Council approved progressing with this project as well.
