BLINN TRUSTEES AUTHORIZE BOND TO FUND CONSTRUCTION OF NEW BRYAN CAMPUS

The Blinn College Board of Trustees adopted a resolution Tuesday authorizing the issuance of approximately $38.8 million in Washington County Junior College District Combined Fee Revenue Bonds to fund Phase 1 development of its new campus in Bryan.

In addition to the approximately $9.6 million in bank-qualified bonds sold in November 2015, this completes the estimated $46.5 million funding for the project.

Announced in 2015, the new 95-acre campus will be located at 851 N. Harvey Mitchell Parkway and ultimately will serve as many as 15,000 students. Complementing Blinn’s current Bryan campus on Villa Maria Road, the new campus will allow Blinn to develop additional science, technology, engineering and mathematics offerings and expand its workforce, technical, research and health-related education programs.

Phase 1 of the project will serve approximately 2,500 students, and includes an academic building, a student resource building and approximately 800 parking spaces. The four-story academic building will include 18 classrooms and eight laboratories, while the student resource center will include a library, study and leisure space, campus police and other student services.

Phase 1 is scheduled for completion in time for the Fall 2017 semester.
