GRIMES CO. RESIDENTS VOICE OPPOSITION TO “AGGIE HIGHWAY”

A number of Grimes County residents turned out Thursday night to voice their opposition to an extension of Highway 249 from Houston to the Brazos Valley.

TxDOT hosted a public hearing Thursday evening in Navasota about the proposed "Aggie Highway", a project that has been in the development stages since 2013.

Many who attended the meeting voiced their opposition to the state's plan to expand 249 from FM 1774 in Pinehurst to Highway 105 east of Navasota.

Most of those in attendance said they don't want the road, but a handful of citizens did say the new route means less congestion for Houston area commuters.

TxDOT says the routes they displayed are the department's preferred options, but subject to change based on public feedback.

The project is expected to cost anywhere from $175 to $200 million.

For those who could not attend last (Thursday) night’s meeting, TxDOT says residents have ten days to submit feedback in written form.
