TXDOT SELECTS ROUTE FOR 249 EXPANSION THROUGH GRIMES COUNTY
The Texas Department of Transportation has selected a final route plan for the 249 Toll Road Extension Project that will extend through Grimes County.
It is an entirely new road that starts north of Magnolia and is about ten miles in length, ending just east of Navasota. It will be a two-lane toll road, crossing over County Road 304 west of FM 1774. It will then cross over Beason Creek and County Road 307.
The specific route was chosen after public hearing and comment. Chad Bohne, who works for TxDOT’s Bryan District, says there are “no homes, businesses, schools, or churches” that would have to relocate. However, the project has encounter opposition. Residents worry the toll road will invade farmland that has been family owned for decades. Bohne says they’ll have to acquire over 600 acres of right-of-way.
The 249 extension project is expected to cost about $200 million.
