773 POUNDS OF CANNED FOOD DONATED TO BRAZOS VALLEY FOOD BANK

Mighty Slice Pizza in College Station hosted a “Free Pizza Day” with a goal of contributing 250 pounds of goods to the Brazos Valley Food Bank. That goal was nearly tripled, reaching 773 pounds of canned food to be donated.brazos valley food bank2

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, one meal is equal to 1.2 pounds. That means this donation represents 644 meals to be received by a person of need in the Brazos Valley. Approximately 30% of the population in the Bryan and College Station area lives below the poverty line.

Mighty Slice gave away a 14-inch slice of pizza to everyone who brought in canned food items on September 29th. All canned goods have been donated to the Brazos Valley Food Bank, with over 600 slices of pizza served to generous donors.

The Brazos Valley Food Bank is a central distribution site that unites food donors, volunteers, and hunger-relief agencies. As a part of its goals and values, the Brazos Valley Food Bank seeks to reduce waste through efficient food reclaiming systems and utilize strategic partnerships to distribute food to individuals in need. Through partnerships with 36 agencies in surrounding counties, the Brazos Valley Food Bank is on its way to distribute 6 million pounds of food this year to over 50,000 recipients.
