CHRISTMAS DAY HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT LEADS TO DRUG ARREST

  

A hit and run accident led to a drug arrest near Schulenburg on Christmas Day.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a hit and run accident on Interstate 10 near Schulenburg. A short time later, Deputy Colin Godmintz saw a blue 2005 Chevy pickup truck which matched the description of the vehicle that fled the scene.

When he stopped the vehicle, Godmintz observed open alcohol beverage containers in the vehicle along drug paraphernalia. Godmintz also detected the distinct odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. The vehicle also had recent body damage consistent with the reported accident.

Arrested and charged with possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces was an undocumented illegal alien, 27-year-old Francisco Ortiz, currently residing in New Caney.
