KEEP WASHINGTON COUNTY BEAUTIFUL SEEKING VOLUNTEERS
Keep Washington County Beautiful is seeking volunteers to help with trash pick-ups along local roads.
The organization says it’s a great way for anyone with a passion for having a clean, scenic community to get involved. The organization says the first step in helping is to organize a group of friends, neighbor, or co-workers and then simply pick a spot to clean. Keep Washington County Beautiful says they have all the safety gear and pick-up supplies needed.
Keep Washington County Beautiful is a group of Brenham and Washington County residents and leaders who aim to enhance the quality of life in Washington County. The group says their mission is to engage the citizens of Washington County to take greater responsibility for keeping the historic county clean, safe and beautiful, through litter prevention, waste management, beautification, and recycling.

My son’s are visiting us during Christmas/ New Year’s from Florida and I am embarrassed to drive them around Brenham/Washington County. The amount of trash on the sides of the roads is a disgrace. It seems like the only time the city/County will clean up the trash is when the tourists will be coming in to take pics in the bluebonnets. Any other time and it’s up to us (taxpayers) to do the dirty work. Come on Brenham/Washington County – put the inmates / community service people to work actually performing community service.
I agree that inmates should perform tasks like this one, but we must also help to keep the city looking good and not wait on someone else. If you see trash, pick it up and put it in its place
I’m told WCSO inmates are no longer doing this sort of community work because they ‘find’ too much contraband conveniently placed in the ditch for them, which they then bring back to the jail. Personally I’d prefer that Washington County Environmental do more investigating, particularly into the bags of trash that regularly get thrown into all the creeks at road crossings, but they would probably need more staff and a bigger budget, and we’re not into ‘Big Gubmint’ around these here parts…
Easy fix to that assumption—- Searched upon reentry to the jail.. Who cares if their feelings get hurt.
Why on earth do they not make inmates in County jail do this? Old Chappell Hill Rd is trashed from people dumping tires, fast food trash, and beer cans. My 5 year old and I picked up what we could, but can’t go any further because it is not safe enough to do so without someone putting out cones or some type of flags due to how narrow the road is plus the sharp curves and blind spots.
I TOTALLY AGREE with the above comment on using people who owe the city and the county “community service hours”….excellent way for them to work it off.
What happen to using the jail inmates to help keep this project going or the ones on probation so they can complete their community service hours? why ask people who work and have a family to use their family time to keep up the area. Don’t get me wrong I think its wonderful to volunteer but I also think the ones who have “taken” from the community should be the first to give back….
I’m with the above comment. ..
Just wondering,
You are making a comment that makes PERFECT sense!! The idea of having the inmates do that kind of work and even more should absolutely be done.
That statement sounds good, but the Washington Co. Environmental department would have to take the lead on this project. The County Judge and Commissioners court do not care to spend any money for the WCSO to be pro-active for a better county.
