BLUE BELL WANTS PRECAUTIONS EASED AFTER LISTERIA OUTBREAK

Blue Bell wants federal regulators to ease precautions in place since the deadly listeria outbreak and allow them to return to more normal procedures.

The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Joseph Levitt, an attorney for Blue Bell, has written to the Food and Drug Administration saying that it is time for the company “to transition to the norm”.

Documents obtained under a federal open records request show Blue Bell has been working with a laboratory to develop tests to meet federal Food and Drug Administration requirements and prevent future outbreaks.

Levitt says that given the extent of the 2015 company-wide recall, it was reasonable for Blue Bell to begin with an extra cautious approach, but it is now the time to transition into the industry norm. Levitt says Blue Bell has established that the company has an effective Listeria prevention program in each of its three facilities.
