COUNTY OFFICIALS TO BE SWORN IN TO OFFICE SUNDAY
A new member of the Washington County Commissioners Court will celebrate the New Year this Sunday by being sworn in during a ceremony.
Don Koester, the new commissioner for Precinct One, will take his oath of office. Koester is the only first-time official who will be sworn in on Sunday. Koester, a republican who won the primary over incumbent Zeb Heckman, beat out Democrat Lewis Houser in the November general election.
Kirk Hanath, who was in the only other county-level contested race, will take an oath for another term as Precinct Three county commissioner. Hanath, a Republican, won over Democrat Joanne Doherty in the November election.
Outgoing elected officials will also be recognized during the ceremony.
The ceremony will be at 1 p.m. in the district courtroom of the courthouse.
