GRIMES COUNTY JAIL INMATE DIED FROM PRE-EXISTING ILLNESS
The Grimes County inmate who died in custody on Monday passed away due to a pre-existing medical condition, according to an autopsy report.
59-year-old Tommie Edward Taylor, of Houston, had been in jail in Anderson since September 30th on a forgery charge.
Taylor had reportedly told jail staff about his previous illness and was scheduled to visit the doctor Monday morning. According to the sheriff’s office as they were preparing him to go, Taylor became unresponsive. Jail staff and EMTs attempted to save his life, but he was declared dead just after 11 a.m.
The exact nature of Taylor’s illness has not been disclosed.
A grand jury will look at the autopsy report and investigation into Taylor’s death in January. The case will also be forwarded to the Texas Commission on jail standards for review.
