TEXAS SENATE APPROVES TWO CAMPUS SEXUAL ASSAULT BILLS
The Texas Senate approved two bills on Monday designed to encourage students to report sexual assaults on college campuses.
One of the bills would exempt victims and witnesses of sexual assaults from being punished under a university’s code of conduct rules- for things such as underage drinking or being in a dorm room after hours.
The other bill mandates putting links online so that people can anonymously report assaults on school websites.
Sen. Watson, D-Austin, proposed the bills which he says is to prevent a situations like what happened at Baylor University, where sexual assault reports were mishandled for years.
Both of the bills were approved in a 30-1 vote and they now head to the Texas House.
