BRENHAM ISD ISSUES WARNING ON CHROMEBOOK SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGE
Brenham ISD is encouraging families to talk to their children about a social media trend that could lead to injury and property damage.
In a social media notice on Friday, the district says the “Chromebook Challenge” involves students putting metal objects like paperclips, pencils and staples into Chromebook ports or keys.
Brenham ISD says the behavior is “dangerous” and “extremely unsafe”, as it can lead to possible electric shock or burns and risks damaging the device or even causing it to catch fire.
While the notice did not state if any occurrences of this trend have popped up in Brenham ISD, multiple school districts around the country have reported the behavior. One student in New Jersey was charged with arson and criminal mischief after allegedly participating in the challenge, leading to students and staff having to evacuate the school building.
Brenham ISD says students engaging in conduct like this will face disciplinary action, including being written up, fined for damaging the Chromebooks and possibly being charged with criminal mischief.
If anyone sees someone attempting this challenge or similar destructive behavior, they are asked to report it to a staff member immediately.
Sorry.
It’s additional to the writing and reading they do with pencils and books.
It is the computer age, and it’s not going away.
All kids from a young age are learning differently than most of us did, because of the advances in learning, technology, and how we all get our information.
Embrace the future, or be stuck in the past.
The problem is kids are stupid. They do stupid things, and are supposed to learn from them, but not all do.
It wasn’t that long ago that stupid people were eating tide pods because it was on the internet challenge garbage.
Why do they need these Chromebook what ate we paying teachers for to teach them how to open a computer .Give them a book with paper and teach the old way this is why education is pitiful in Texas and all across the United States.
