NEW COMMUNITY COLLEGE PETITION TABLED AT BRAZOS CO. COMMISSIONERS COURT
A petition from the Research Valley Partnership (RVP) that was set to be brought in front of the Brazos County Commissioners Court today (Tuesday) was removed from the agenda.
The petition, which was singed by 13,000 Brazos County citizens, calls for the creation of a new community college in the county.
RVP’s Brazos Talent Initiative Steering Committee began a push for the creation of a new community college in Brazos County last fall, citing a lack of workforce education offered by Blinn College in the county.
The petition was removed from the agenda during the court session at the RVP’s Brazos Talent Initiative Committee’s request.
Brazos County Public Information Coordinator Bethany Jones says the petition will be put on a court agenda at a later date.
No word yet on the reasoning behind the pulled petition.
If the petition signatures are verified by the commissioners court, the committee would have to submit those signatures to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for consideration. The board would consider the proposal before approving the process to move forward
“Regardless of today’s petition submission, Blinn College will continue to focus on providing academic and workforce training excellence in the Brazos Valley and throughout its service area” said Richard Bray, director of communications for Blinn.
