BURTON SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES CALENDAR, TEACHER CONTRACTS
The Burton school board approved the 2017-2018 calendar and accepted resignations from two teachers during their meeting on Thursday.
Prior to approving the calendar, the board passed the Burton ISD District of Innovation Plan. The designation allows for districts to have more flexibility with calendar decisions, including establishing a start date earlier than the state allows.
School will start on August 22nd and end on May 24th next year.
Students will have the week of Thanksgiving off; Christmas break will be Dec. 23rd through Jan. 7th; and spring break will be March 10th through the 18th.
The school board also considered a number of teacher contracts.
Kindergarten teacher Molly Russ and fifth grade teacher Mary Keinenburg will retire at the end of this year. The school board approved hiring Holly Lewis as a kindergarten teacher and Meridith Duffey-Dixon as the 5th grade teacher.
Alan Richard was hired as a junior high math teacher. Current reading intervention teacher Elizabeth Jurica is being moved to an elementary special education position. The school board is expected to hire a teacher in the future to fill the reading intervention position.
The board also approved campus improvement and district improvement plans, in addition to approving Lightspeed as the content filter provider for the district.
