LET THE FESTIVITIES BEGIN: MAIFEST PICNIC KICKS OFF CELEBRATIONS
Rain didn’t deter a full crowd from attending the Maifest President’s Kickoff Picnic Wednesday night at Fireman’s Park.
The Ollie Finke Pavilion was packed with people enjoying German food, drinks, and music from John Dujka.
Maifest President Heather Thielemann spoke to the crowd on what the President’s Picnic is all about:
The traditional children’s Maipole dance was performed by girls from Aspirations Gymnastics.
The Maifest Royalty- which this icludes Senior King Jacob McFaddin Pyle, Senior Queen Gracie Kate Westerfeld, Junior King Samuel Clepper, and Junior Queen Victoria Taylor Dippel- cut the ribbon, formally opening the festival.
Attendees at the picnic were also able to catch a glimpse of the performances which will take place during the Junior and Senior Coronations. The Junior Court’s theme this year is “Ticket to Ride.
The Senior Court's theme is “Take me to Paradise”.
St. Paul’s Day School won the art contest this year. Their float was built to size and unveiled during Wednesday’s event. The theme of the float is "Springtime in Brenham” and is complete with park benches, a maipole, and hobby horses all under a beautiful shade tree.
The fun continues tonight when the Mighty Thomas Carival opens on the Maifestival grounds.
There will be rides and games for all ages from 5:00pm – 11pm tonight and 4:00pm – 11pm on Friday night. The Carnival will open at 11:00 am on Saturday morning until midnight. A donation will be made to Adams Angels from the carnival ticket sales.
