PROPERTY APPRAISAL NOTICES MAILED, VALUES ON THE RISE

  

The Washington County Appraisal District sent out 21,785 notices of appraisal to residents last week.

As expected, property appraisals in the county are going up an average of 10 percent this year.

Chief Appraiser Willy Dilworth says there are several factors driving up the value of both residential and commercial property in the county.  He says homes, land and even older buildings in downtown Brenham have been selling at previously unheard of prices.

The taxable appraised property inside the City of Brenham went up 7.8 percent, from $1.2 billion to $1.3 billion.  Taxable property in the county increased 8.9 percent, from last year’s $3.2 billion to $3.5 billion this year.

Property valuations in the Brenham Independent School District show a 9 percent increase over last year, which includes over $49 million in new construction, improvements and new personal property.  The total taxable property in BISD is now over $2.9 billion, up from 2.6 billion in 2016.

For Burton ISD, taxable property valuations jumped 12 percent, or just over $51 million, for a total of over $448 million.

Taxable property in the Blinn College taxing district has increased 8.8 percent in value, rising by just under $298 million to over $3.5 billion.

The state comptroller’s office requires that the local appraisals fall between 95 percent and 105 percent of the value the state places on the county’s property.
