CUBETTES’ SEASON ENDS IN REGION SEMIFINALS
The Brenham Cubettes’ 2017 softball season came to an end, Friday, as Barbers Hill defeated the Cubettes, 3-2 in the third and deciding game of the Region III/5A Semifinal.
The Cubettes (25-12) rallied to force a rubber game by defeating the Eagles, 3-1 in the opener at the University of Houston.
Meg Morris got the win in the circle, yielding just one run on three hits and striking out seven.
Annie Cangelosi paced the offense, going 2-for-3 with a double, driving in a run and scoring a run.
Kelly Jurden scored the Cubettes’ other two runs, while Shae Harris and Savannah Bartay each drove in a run.
In the third and deciding game, Brenham jumped out to an early lead as Jurden led off the game with a double and scored on Cangelosi’s single.

Barbers Hill came back with an unearned run the bottom of the first and then took the lead with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
Cangelosi evened the score in the fourth with a solo home run (her sixth of the season).
But two fielding miscues and an infield single led to the eventual game-winning run for the Eagles in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Morris took the tough loss, going six innings and giving up just one earned run on three hits and striking out four.

The Eagles advance on to the Region Final against Willis, after the Lady Kats rallied to sweep Kingwood Park, Friday night, 4-3 and 11-8.
The game also marks the end of a remarkable senior class for the Cubettes.
The group of seven seniors were all played a crucial role in the Cubettes’ success over the past three seasons.
Playing their final games were: Annie and Sally Cangelosi, Shae Harris, Meg Morris, Kelly Jurden, Maddie Weatherly and Brette Kohring.
