TEXAS RURAL VOICES TO HOLD FORUM TONIGHT FOR LAKE SOMERVILLE’S FUTURE
A local activist group known as Texas Rural Voices is holding a public forum today (Thursday) to raise awareness of the upcoming land auction at Lake Somerville. The forum will be at the Blinn College Student Center Conference Room, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.
The Bureau of Land Management is planning to auction off oil and gas production rights to some 1,700 acres of land under and surrounding the Corps of Engineers Lake Somerville Reservoir on June 6, 2017.
The Texas Rural Voices aims to bring awareness to concerns surrounding the Bureau’s plan.
Guest speakers will include Dennis Williams, local resident and chemist with a lifetime of working with the oil and gas industry internationally, and Luke Metzger, Director, Environment Texas.
There will also be a presentation of the potential risks to the water supply from drilling and fracking, and information on the water sources throughout the state which have already suffered damages.

Thank you for this important information.
This is our water supply. If,I personally, had the money, I would buy it just to keep someone from drilling and fracking anywhere near it. Who cares about the mineral rights? We will always need water.
If we cannot depend on our elected officials to stop and protect our water supply now? Who can we depend on? Senetor Kolkhorst are you listening?
