BISD TO SET TAX RATE MONDAY

The Brenham School District is expected to approve a tax rate for the 2018 fiscal year when they meet Monday afternoon.

The school board is likely to adopt a tax rate that is one-cent lower than the current rate—but will still generate more tax revenue.

Property rolls increased by nearly $175-million over the past year, meaning a slightly lower tax rate will still bring in more money to the district.

The current tax rate is $1.135 per hundred dollars valuation.

Also Monday, the board will hold a budget workshop as well as set the dates for public hearings on the budget.

Trustees will also discuss Brenham’s designation as a “rich” school district, which would obligate them to share tax revenue with “poor” districts.

The BISD Board of Trustees meets Monday at noon in the district’s administrative offices at 711 Mansfield Street.
