KOLKHORST NAMED TO COASTAL BARRIER COMMITTEE

  

State Senator Lois Kolkhorst of Brenham has been appointed to a committee to study the coastal barrier system in Texas.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced the appointments of Senators Kolkhorst and Larry Taylor of Friendswood to the Joint Interim Committee to Study a Coastal Barrier System..  Taylor was also designated as co-chair.

Patrick said the last several weeks have shown how important it is that Texas has the best possible systems and infrastructure in place for unexpected and sometimes disastrous events.

The committee will study and report to the legislature the feasibility and desirability of creating and maintaining a coastal barrier system that includes a series of gates and barriers to prevent storm surge damage to gulf beaches, coastal ports, industry, and property.
