The Brenham School Board received an update on the renovation work at Krause Elementary School during their meeting Monday evening.  The majority of the mechanical systems were updated at the school last summer, and the district is looking to renovate the cosmetic items this summer.  The board approved Project Control as the Construction Manager at Risk for the project so that the bid requests could start going out.  Krause Elementary school was built in 1986 and expanded in 1994.

Assistant Superintendent Paul Aschenbeck told the board that they are currently seeking input for the school calendar for next year.  He said that the district will post a survey for parents to provide their input.  That survey will be available during the Christmas break at brenhamisd.net.

Trustees also approved the purchase of 1000 new Chromebook computers for the district.  Director of Instructional Technology Kim Strauss said that there are currently 4600 Chromebooks in use in Brenham schools and that students expect the latest in technology.  She explained that the new Chromebooks have the latest operating system that allows them to run Android apps.

Director of Business and Finance, Kim Weatherby, reported that the district received the highest possible rating for financial accountability.  The district received a perfect 100 score by the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas.

The board also presented two “You Make a Difference” awards this month.  Brenham’s Fortnightly Club was presented the award for their donations of books and their reading programs and scholarships.   Also receiving the award was Dr. Cassandra Bryant who is a pediatrician at the Brenham Clinic.  She provided 400 dictionaries to the elementary schools through the Dictionary Project.  The dictionaries will be used by students to prepare for the STAAR writing assessment.
