ENDANGERED SPECIES IN QUESTION FOR HIGH SPEED RAIL OPPOSITION GROUP

A group opposed to the high-speed rail continues to battle against the proposed project.

Texans Against High Speed Rail is asking that land owners express how they could be impacted by participating in a public comment period and they would also like to hear how endangered species may be affected.

Texas A&M professor, Dr. Christian Brannstrom, says it's a normal request for projects like this.

Brannstrom says the Endangered Species Act states that if species are found in the area it could trigger a lengthy and costly set of studies that could slow down the project.

Texans Against High Speed Rail told KBTX TV in Bryan, they are confident that with landowner input the Federal Railroad Administration and Texas Central Partners will have to address many more issues before proceeding with this project.

Texas Central points to the environmental impact statement produced by the government.  They say all the issues have been reviewed without finding any adverse effects.
