VIDEO – CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON NEW GOODWILL BAPTIST CHURCH

Construction began this week on the new Goodwill Baptist Church at the corner of Highway 105 and FM 2193.  The previous location of the church, about 6 miles away, was destroyed by flooding in May of 2016.  Church Deacon Tommie Sullivan said the church had been there for 150 years and it had never flooded before.  Sullivan said the church had insurance, but not flood insurance, and FEMA said they could not help.  That’s when Sullivan learned about the Volunteer Christian Builders group.  The organization, made up of about 300 volunteers nationwide, decided to accept the project.  A group of about 18 volunteers arrived this week to begin construction. The construction was already one step ahead with the foundation of the building already completed, but the rainy weather this week has caused their schedule to be adjusted.

Members of Goodwill Baptist’s congregation have also been helping out with the construction and also the meals for the group.  The Volunteer Christian Builders group normally works on a project Monday through Friday, but they may work this Saturday, depending on the weather, in order to have all the wall framing up for the scheduled arrival of the roof trusses next week.  If you would like to help out, the site is located about 9 miles from Brenham on Highway 105 at the intersection with FM 2193.  Donations can be made through the church’s web site at goodwillmbc.org or can be mailed to PO Box 1784, Brenham TX.
