Marc Young

This week, KWHI is talking with the 5 candidates that are running for the Republican nomination for the District 13 State Representative seat.   Today, we are talking with Austin County resident Marc Young.  Young says his campaign is going well and he has talked with a lot of people in the rural areas:

Young says that he started with property owner rights as a key focus of his campaign, but after talking with people in the district, the increase in property taxes is a big issue with many people.  He says the state need to find a way to raise the funds for local governments besides the current property tax:

Governor Greg Abbott has set a special election for May 5th to fill the unexpired term of former District 13 State Representative Leighton Schubert.  Young says he has already filed for the special election explains why that is important:

Young says that it is important that voter elect someone who understands rural values and will represent them in Austin.  He says that with his background in farming and ranching, he understands those values.
