WASHINGTON COUNTY READ BOOK ANNOUNCED MONDAY

A moving, non-fiction story is this year’s selection for Washington County Read.  Lifetime Learning announced the selection this (Monday) morning during a ceremony at Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library.  This year’s selection is “The Train to Crystal City” by Jan Jarboe Russell.  The book is about the secret internment camp at Crystal City Texas during World War ll.  The camp, approved by FDR, was the only internment camp that housed entire families.  It held German, Italian, and Japanese immigrants and was used for secret prisoner trades.  Those that were held there faced being returned to their home country in exchange for American diplomats, soldiers, or businessmen.

“The Train to Crystal City” is available at the Book Nook in Brenham.  It will also be available at Lifetime Learning events during the year and on Amazon as either a hard copy or an eBook.  An oral reading of portions of the book and a discussion by the author is planned in October at Unity Theatre.

Members of Lifetime Learning and the Washington County Chamber of Commerce announce this year's Washington County Read book on the steps of the library Monday.
