AUSTIN BOMBING SUSPECT IDENTIFIED
The suspect in a series of bombs that have killed two and injured four in Austin, is dead.
Authorities say 24-year old Mark Anthony Conditt of Pflugerville, killed himself with another bomb after local and federal agents closed in on him early Wednesday morning in Round Rock.
Police said they remain concerned that Conditt may have planted more explosive packages elsewhere.
Police zeroed in on Conditt as a person of interest over the last 24 to 36 hours, eventually locating his vehicle with the help of surveillance teams.
Local and federal authorities stopped Conditt’s vehicle near a Round Rock hotel. As Austin SWAT team members approached his vehicle, he detonated an explosion. One officer suffered minor injuries.
The bombings began March 2nd, killing two people and injuring at least four others.
The first three involved packages left on porches, while the fourth, which injured two men Sunday night, was detonated by a tripwire tied to an explosive device.
Tuesday, an unexploded bomb was discovered at a FedEx facility in Austin. That's the sixth device tied to the serial bomber.
