128TH MAIFEST THIS WEEK IN BRENHAM
It’s Maifest Week in Brenham as events get underway for the 128th Maifest.
This past Saturday, hundreds of kids and adults participated in the 4th Annual Maifest Color Run at Henderson Park in Brenham. Proceeds of the Run are given to the Maifest Scholarship Fund.
The official “Kickoff Picnic” for this year’s Maifest will be held at Fireman’s Park Pavilion Wednesday evening at 6 o’clock. KWHI will have a live broadcast from the opening ceremonies.
Maifest costumes from kings and queens of the past are on display at 23 locations throughout downtown Brenham. In addition, the Brenham Heritage Museum exhibit, “Maifest from the Vault”, is open for viewing at the Barnhill Center Tuesday, Fridays and Saturday from 1:00 ‘til 5:00 p.m.
The Mighty Thomas Carnival will open on the Maifestival grounds at Fireman’s Park at 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Live music at the pavilion begins at 5:30 Friday and continues through the evening, which also features the Junior Coronation “Court of the Great Outdoors” at the baseball field.
Saturday’s colorful parade of costumed kids and marching bands begins at 10:30 a.m. in downtown Brenham. German music and dancing will be the flavor of the day at the Maifestival grounds Saturday, where admission is free. The Zythological Society of North America will host the annual Meister Von Bier Homebrew Contest that afternoon at 1:00 at the American Legion Hall. You can sample the winning brews later from 2:00 ‘til 5:00 at Bierverkostung Beer Tasting at the Fireman’s Park Pavilion. Saturday night’s Senior Coronation at the ballpark is the “Court of Our Excellent Adventures”. Live music will continue at the Maifestival grounds until 11:00 Saturday night.
