HIGH-SPEED RAIL–AMTRAK REACH TICKETING AGREEMENT

Passengers on a proposed high-speed rail between Houston and Dallas could use Amtrak’s reservation system to buy tickets for the train under a new agreement.

Texas Central, developers of the proposed “bullet train,” would have access to Amtrak’s national routes, connecting riders between Amtrak passenger stations and its stations in Dallas and Houston.

Officials with Texas Central say they have been working with Amtrak and others to expand opportunities to attract, assist and serve passengers on the 200 mph Dallas-to-Houston line, with a stop in Grimes County.

Officials claim the agreement is an important step in the progress of the Texas Bullet Train, giving both local and interstate travelers more options.

The agreement comes as the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) completes a final environmental study of the train’s proposed 240-mile route.  The FRA in a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) issued Dec. 15 that the train will alleviate strains on Texas’ infrastructure.

  1. I personally think it is great! My parents are in their 90’s, this would give them a chance to visit family in Dallas without feeling like a burden or having to sit for long periods of time on a bus.

  2. I often wonder if back in the day people opposed the interstate highways or roads like 290 coming through. At some point, we have to be willing to change. I personally think solid infrastructure like a high speed rail can do nothing but improve our states economy.

  3. I bet if it was going through your grandma’s property you might think differently.

    1. It is going through grandma’s property, but we had already sold it to some folks from Houston. Now they’re getting a big check…

  4. I myself am looking forward to it,we have family in Dallas and I would appreciate a short train ride versus a 4hr.car ride.and could spend more time with them.

  5. I don’t oppose this train. Either we move on or live in the dark ages. Time to move on.

  6. So many of us oppose this high speed rail and we appreciate Ben Leman for his time in service as the leader of the group Texans Against High Speed Rail!

    1. I thought I read a letter to the editor from his brother that stated he had changed his mind and was for the High Speed Rail? I would hope he is against it. Just a little confused now.
