GRIMES CO. S.O. INVESTIGATES CRUELTY CHARGES IN IOLA

Officials with the Grimes County Sheriff's Office say they are working with a horse owner in Iola after multiple complaints alleging the man's horses are being neglected.

Mary Carol Herrington, the founder of the Grimes County Rescue Network, told KBTX-TV, the group wants the animals to be seized by authorities and fostered.

Neighbors say they have taken it upon themselves to feed the horses through a neighboring fence line.  They say they've been fighting for three years to get the horses help.

The Grimes County Sheriff's Office says they have investigated and are working with the owner, identified as John Porter.

Porter says he's been in the hospital and hadn't realized his horses weren't being taken care of. He says since being cleared, he's fed the horses daily.

Porter says he's mostly frustrated with the way his neighbors have gone about their claims, using social media to blast him.

According to the Sheriff's Office, two investigators are monitoring the horses weekly and are working with the owner to get the animals help.
