FORMER BRENHAM STORE OWNER SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS

A former Brenham store owner has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

53-year old Asraf Ali of Richmond, pleaded guilty last November to four counts to Delivery of a Controlled Substance after undercover investigators from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office say they purchased synthetic marijuana from Ali’s store on Highway 36 North.

A search of Ali’s store and an adjacent storage unit turned up over 300 bags of the substance as well as drug paraphernalia, including: pipes, bongs, screens and grinders.

Ali received a 10-year prison term and three sentences of 10 years’ probation.  If he is released on parole for the 10-year prison term, he will still have to serve the remainder of the three probation terms, which run concurrently.

Assistant District Attorney Derek Estep prosecuted the case, while Ali was represented by Travis Fleetwood of Brenham and Geoff Connor of Austin.

District Attorney Julie Renken says this sentence bolsters her vow that her office, “will not offer probation for people caught selling drugs.”

  1. There sure must be a lot more to this story. I mean, was this guy operating some kind of drug dealing business using legitimate store as cover, or what?

  2. *Way 2 go Julie! I’m glad you understand the final outcome for the drug dealers in Brenham. Keep up the great work and let them know no amount of money can save your soul to becoming on the streets! Let this individual think long and hard for the next ten years about what he’s done!

    1. Good job, but that promise is not the perfect solution. Just hope it don’t fill up the prison spots needed for violent offenders that need to be off of our streets. People with more violent crimes are serving less time than 10. Marijuana is legal in some US states.
