SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN FM 390 ROBBERY

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in connection with an armed robbery that occurred Tuesday afternoon.

According to Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak, 20-year-old Cornelius Latherio Beroid Jr., of Navasota, was taken into custody on charges of aggravated robbery, credit card abuse and failure to ID.  Bonds for Beroid, also a suspect for criminal activity in surrounding counties, are set at a total of $550,750.

These charges come from the armed robbery on FM 390 on Tuesday around 2:30 p.m., where both Beroid and a 14-year-old juvenile robbed a Caldwell man at gunpoint.  According to the victim, they threatened to tie the man up or kill him, and at one point fired the gun at him, but the gun did not go off.

After fleeing the scene, the suspects began using a credit card stolen from the man across town.  Washington County authorities identified the suspects by tracing the purchases.

The juvenile suspect, upon being taken into custody, managed to escape from the Washington County facility.  Washington County authorities later determined he had made his way out to the Coach Light Inn on South Market Street, and made contact with him at an apartment complex in Navasota.

As enforcement attempted to identify itself, the juvenile jumped out of the apartment window and escaped.  The juvenile is now being charged with felony escape from a correctional facility, as well as aggravated robbery.  The suspect is still considered to be at large.
