The Science, Math, Art, Reading, and Technology (SMART) Program has added the “SMART Kids Pros Program”, where kids from kindergarten to sixth grade are introduced to and mentored by an official in the profession they want to pursue when they grow up.

The program began on Tuesday, July 3, when 9-year-old Kiseman Wanza was recognized as County Judge of the day at the weekly Washington County Commissioners meeting.

Today (Monday), three kids were introduced to their mentors.  Brenham Fire Chief Ricky Boeker met with 7-year-old Enrique Rivera, 8-year-old Alexa Cervantes was introduced to Brenham Police Chief Louis Barrow Jr., and 9-year-old Breasia Bradley met Brenham ISD Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson.

Reverend Randy Wells said kids are always being asked what they did over the summer and what they want to be when they grow up.  He said “In order to be it, sometimes we have to see it,” and valued the importance of having real and tangible role models in the community.

Rev. Wells also said there will be medical doctors, professional athletes, pastors and others who will be participating in the SMART Pro Kids Program.  To learn more, or to volunteer or donate, call 979-830-1488 and ask for Qwynetta Foster.
