BRENHAM ASSAULT TRIAL DELAYED

Charyan Thomas
(Washington Co. Jail)

The trial for a Brenham man charged with assault of a family member has been rescheduled due to pre-trial publicity.

According to Washington County District Attorney Julie Renken, District Judge Carson Campbell declared a mistrial because he felt the current jury knew too much about the current case of 42-year-old Charyan Demon Thomas, prior to the trial.

Campbell considered it prejudicial for the jury to know Thomas had been previously indicted in March on two second degree felonies, as well as his conviction on aggravated robbery charges in 2002.

The trial has been rescheduled for the week of August 20th.

  1. The publicity will continue and people won’t forget, why not a change of venue? That’s what the public defender should be asking for.
