MAN KILLED IN AUSTIN CO. CAR-TRAIN COLLISION

  

One person is dead, following a collision with a passing train in Bellville Friday afternoon.

According to Austin County DPS Trooper Cole Courville, the accident occurred after 3 p.m. near 1456 Center Hill Road in Bellville.  The driver, identified as 44-year-old Neal Cowley of Piney Creek, attempted to beat the train that was heading north.  The train struck Cowley’s side of the vehicle.

Cowley was pronounced dead at the scene.  Authorities discovered alcohol containers in the vehicle, but blood tests have not yet determined if the driver was under the influence.
