TEA AWARDING HURRICANE HARVEY DISPLACEMENT FUNDS TO LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS
Several local school districts, including Brenham ISD, are eligible to receive part of $174 million in emergency impact aid funds.
Commissioner of Education Mike Morath announced Tuesday that the Texas Education Agency (TEA) was awarded over $174 million in federal assistance, through the Temporary Emergency Impact Aid for Displaced Students program.
This federal funding will help Texas school districts with costs of educating students that were displaced by Hurricane Harvey last school year. Earlier this year, the TEA gave the U.S. Department of Education information from school districts and charters concerning displaced students.
Over 300 school districts and charters are eligible for a portion of this federal funding. Locally eligible districts include: Brenham ISD, Caldwell ISD, Navasota ISD, Iola ISD, Weimar ISD, Bryan ISD and Huntsville ISD.
The TEA will be contacting the eligible districts to give instructions on how to apply for the federal grant funding.
