BRENHAM BBQ OWNER TO COMPETE IN ‘CHOPPED GRILL MASTERS’ FINALS

After airing in Tuesday night’s competition, a Brenham pitmaster will be moving on to the “Chopped Grill Masters” finals.
Leonard Botello IV, owner of Truth Barbeque on Highway 290 West, defeated three other Texas pitmasters in the episode that aired on the Food Network on Tuesday. Botello will represent Texas in the finals next Tuesday.
The competition makes chefs use ingredients found in “mystery boxes” to prepare dishes. The chefs come from four regions of the U.S., including Kansas City, Memphis, North Carolina and Texas. Each contestant is competing for a $50,000 cash prize.
In Tuesday’s competition, Botello completed three rounds, consisting of an appetizer, entrée and dessert. His ingredients included short ribs, spicy mealworms, okra and Texas toast in the appetizer round; brisket, deep-fried barbecue sauce, chile con queso and rainbow carrots for the entrée; and beef sausage, Ruby Red grapefruit, Texas pecan cake and wheat beer for the dessert round.
Botello’s Truth Barbeque was recently named to Texas Monthly’s top-10 list of the 50 best barbecue restaurants in Texas.
The finale airs Tuesday, August 28th at 8 p.m. on the Food Network.
I’m glad he made it to the championship, but at least if he didn’t it would’ve gone to my second favorite contestant. The first two eliminated were in my honest opinion full of themselves and not focused on the right reason to advance.
It also helps that he had Alex Guarnaschelli as one of the judges. She’s tough, but fair and detailed, so that should help him as well come the finals.
Congrats Leonard and good luck in the finals.
AWESOME!! YOU ARE!! CONGRATULATIONS PRAYING FOR YOUR WIN!!
Congratulations! Now go show those other state reps how Texans grill!
Congratulations Leonard and best of luck in the finals! Sure am glad to have you and Truth BBQ in the Brenham market.
