GRIMES CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE SUSPECTS ARSON IN IOLA GRASS FIRES
Grimes County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for the arrest of individuals suspected of starting several grass fires on Thursday.
According to Grimes County Sheriff Don Sowell, the Iola Volunteer Fire Department was called out to County Road 110 near Iola Thursday afternoon, around 2:45 p.m. The fire departments of Shiro and Bedias were also called to assist with putting out the grass fires on the south side of the road.
Investigators with the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office believe the fires were set intentionally, since they were of similar size and set the same distance apart from one another.
Sheriff Sowell says the department has received calls on suspicious persons, but nothing with substantial evidence.
If anyone has information regarding the case, they are encouraged to call the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office at 936-873-2151, or Grimes County Crime Stoppers at 936-873-2000.
