BRENHAM POLICE CAUTIONING AGAINST CREDIT CARD SKIMMERS
The Brenham Police Department is warning citizens of credit card skimmers.
After credit card skimmers were recently found and confiscated at a gas station in Brenham, police are informing the public to be cautious when using credit card readers. The incident was reported at the Four Corners Exxon, at the corner of Highway 36 South and Highway 290.
Captain Lloyd Powell says a skimmer can be installed on card readers to record information when a card is swiped.
Cpt. Powell says there are multiple ways to avoid becoming a victim of these crimes.
People are also encouraged to regularly check their bank accounts to spot any unauthorized charges. If anyone suspects their credit card number has been compromised, they should report it to the authorities, as well as their credit card company.
Anyone with questions can call the Brenham Police Department’s non-emergency line, at 979-277-7373.
