BURTON CITY COUNCIL HOLDING HEARING ON TAX RATE MONDAY
The Burton City Council will hold public hearing on its proposed property tax rate at this evening’s (Monday) meeting.
Councilmembers will consider action to approve an ordinance adopting the rate of $0.50 per $100 valuation.
The rate consists of a $0.1068 maintenance and operations rate, and a $0.3932 debt service rate.
The council will also look to adopt an ordinance for the regulation of recreational vehicles within the city.
The motion was tabled at the council’s last meeting, because councilmembers wanted additional parking restrictions on vehicles parked within city limits that are not being used.
In addition, the council will consider an ordinance pertaining to the disposal of junked vehicles in the city. City Secretary Angela Weyand says councilmembers will be reviewing old ordinances and updating them, as new state laws require new ordinances.
Councilmembers will also discuss collection of information on the drilling of a backup water well, to replace the collapsed one at East Mulberry Street and North Brazos Street. Weyand says J&S Water Wells of Bellville will be at the meeting to answer questions.
The council will also look at closing North Brazos Street, between East Texas Street and East Washington Street, on October 2nd from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The closure will be for National Night Out activities at the Burton Volunteer Fire Department.
Councilmembers meet tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
