TEXAS ARTS AND MUSIC FESTIVAL TO PAINT OVER TWO MURALS IN DOWNTOWN BRENHAM

To make room for the upcoming Texas Arts and Music Festival’s new murals, two older murals will be painted over in downtown Brenham.

People of all ages are invited to help prep space for two new murals tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon at 6 p.m.  The group will meet at that time, in parking lot B on Commerce Street.  They will announce which murals will be painted over at the gathering.

In agreement with property owners, the festival will be adding new murals over the originals, giving Brenham a changing art collection every three to five years.  The new murals will be painted during the festival, which begins October 19th.

Festival Board Chairman Brad Stufflebeam says the murals are meant to be temporary, as their best quality lasts up to about five years.  He says the festival has brought in some of the best mural artists state and nationwide, which will give Brenham “an unmatched standard for street art amongst small towns in Texas.”

Board member Jenny Van Doorf says this will ensure the highest quality paintings for the “Brenham skyline.”  She believes it will help create variety and excitement for the festival.

    1. I doubt it’s the owls:

      A. Painted by a guy who designed covers for well -known musicians.

      B. The building it’s on has installed lamps to light it.

      C. It’s gigantic, and most likely of all:

      D. It was painted last year.

The two I’m thinking it’ll be are the double Indian heads and – sadly – the leopard eyes, with the Texas flag third choice (though it’s possible flag and Indians as they’re both on same building)

The others are either new, or the case of Sam Houston, not as visible so not as enticing to a new artist.

  1. I wonder if they are aware that the Homecoming Parade will be taking place tomorrow evening at 6:30.
