CUBS FOOTBALL SEASON ENDS WITH LOSS TO CALALLEN
The Brenham Cubs’ football season came to an end Friday night, as Corpus Christi Calallen down the Cubs, 42-13.
The game was a defensive struggle throughout the first half, with the Wildcats (12-1) taking a 6-0 lead into the locker room at intermission, following an A.J. Brown 4-yard run with just under five minutes left in the second quarter.
Calallen took control of the game in the third quarter with three scores: a 24-yard pass from Jarrett Garza to Grayson Leal; another four-yard run by Brown; and a 29-yard run by Garza.
Brenham (8-5) finally got on the board on the final play of the third quarter, when Tyree Jackson raced 76-yards into the end zone.
Calellan responded with a five-minute drive that ended with a 7-yard run by Shenan Price.
Just 36 seconds later, Jackson would sprint 70-yards for the touchdown.
The Wildcats would end the scoring on Hunter Groves’ 1-yard run.
Calallen heads on to the Region Final against the winner of Saturday’s game between Kerrville Tivy and Calhoun.
For the Cubs, this marked the fourteenth straight trip to the playoffs, the first under Head Coach Eliot Allen, who rallied the Cubs from a 1-3 start to seven wins in their last nine games.
