NAVY TO PERFORM HISTORIC FLYOVER IN BUSH’S HONOR
The U.S. Navy has announced an unprecedented 21-aircraft missing man flyover above College Station, Thursday to honor the former Commander-in-Chief, President George H. W. Bush.
The 4:15 p.m. flyover will go directly above the George Bush Library and Museum on the Texas A&M campus and will be the Navy's largest flyover ever.
The F/A-18 Hornets and Super Hornets from Naval Air Station Oceana left Virginia Beach Tuesday en route to Texas.
Bush was 18 when he earned his Wings of Gold, making him one of the youngest Naval Aviators in history. His 58 combat missions during World War II earned him the Distinguished Flying Cross.
A traditional missing man fly-over is normally performed with four jets. The fly-over for Bush will be much larger, involving 21 aircraft.
The Navy says these squadrons from Oceana will take part in the fly-over that will happen Thursday during the interment ceremony in College Station.
