PANTHERS READY TO FACE BEAVERS IN PLAYOFFS–AGAIN
The Burton Panthers look to continue their quest for their first-ever state football championship tonight, when they battle a familiar foe, Falls City, in the Region Final.
The Panthers (10-2) will square off with the Beavers (13-0) at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio.
Burton enters the game with three convincing wins in the post-season, over Chilton (59-13), LaPryor (74-14) and Granger (47-7). Falls City has been equally impressive with run-away wins over Agua Dulce (75-12), Snook (63-8) and Woodsboro (50-0).
Over the season, the Panthers have outscored their 12 opponents, 608-to-242; while the Beavers have been just as dominant, outscoring the opposition, 692-123.
The Burton offense is led by senior quarterback Caleb Harmel, who has rushed for 1410 yards and 21 touchdowns; and thrown for 1940 yards and 30 touchdowns, with only three interceptions.
Panthers also boast a number of offensive weapons: De’Monderick Winters (451 yds. rushing and 12 TD’s; and 930 yds. receiving with 13 TD’s); Tristan Brantley (502 yds. receiving and 8 TD’s); DeMarcus Wilson (478 yds. rushing and 6 TD’s); and Cash Callahan (10 TD’s: 4 rushing, 6 receiving).
The Beavers are also led by their senior quarterback, Keyshawn Johnson, who has rushed for 1042 yards and 18 touchdowns, and thrown for 2811 yards, 38 TD’s and five interceptions.
Falls City’s offensive weapons include: running back Brad Lyssy (2036 yds., 29 TD’s; 440 yds. receiving, 8 TD’s); and Cory Dziuk (1262 yds. receiving and 19 total touchdowns).
This is the fourth-consecutive year the Panthers and Beavers have met in the playoffs; Last year Burton prevailed 69-45; Burton also won in 2016, 34-24; Falls City won in 2015, 50-13.
