BRENHAM MAN IN CUSTODY FOR MURDER OF COLLEGE STATION STORE CLERK
A Brenham man has been arrested and charged in the robbery that led to the shooting death of a College Station woman, Sunday night at the Valero on Rock Prairie Road and Highway 6.
29-year old Rufus Edward Lockett was arrested early this (Monday) morning after an overnight search by Brazos County authorities.
54-year-old Anita Jean Randle was a clerk at the store, when an armed man, identified as Lockett, demanded money. A witness told police Randle was unable to provide any money, and the suspect shot her multiple times.
Randle died a short time later at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center.
Lockett has been charged with Aggravated Robbery, with other charges pending.
According to authorities, this is not Lockett’s first felony arrest. He was sentenced to eight years in prison back in 2009, for setting fire to a Brenham High School classroom in 2007, allegedly because he didn’t want to take a test.
The fire caused $200,000 worth of damage. Lockett served seven years behind bars.
Wow, by this guys actions and the escalation of his crimes this would be a perfect example of a death penalty case. This guy can’t be rehabilitated and would be a danger to all on the street. I hope the DA goes after capital punishment on this
I just read about this on kbtx and he has been charged with aggravated robbery causing serious bodily injury. Are you kidding me?!?!He should be charged with murder he knew exactly what his plans were no mater what store he chose and no matter what his motives were!! Prayers for the family!!! Sorry for your loss!!
Murder and Aggravated Robbery are the same level of offense. DA’s office over there is probably trying to decide whether to charge him with Capital Murder.
May be the same level of defense, but they are two different charges and two different things that have been done. In this case he should have been charged with AGGRAVATED ROBBERY AND MURDER!!!!!!! No matter what type of murder it is considered murder should be added to his case! Apparently it happened Sunday and she died a short time later he was arrested Monday, so there for they should have had that charge on him already instead of trying to make a decision of what type of murder! He may have mental issues who knows but at the end of the day a human being knows that killing someone for no reason is wrong especially with what he tried which was robbery! Seems to me he knew exactly what he was doing and dose not have mental issues, just has problems with things not going his way and not getting what he wants! Sad sad sad! Hope he sits the rest of his life in there because he was let back out into society only to do worse than what he did and that was murder a person for some chump change that couldn’t even get him anything anyways if she was able to give him the money! I will pray for him though God bless his soul if he even has one!
Starting a fire in class to get out from taking a test? That sounds like the kid had mental problems back then. Sending him to prison didn’t reform him one bit now did it? The courts find it easier to send someone with mental health problems to prison then to get them actual help and look what happens.
It sounds to me more like a behavioral problem. Possibly it is mental, but someone would have to prove that to me. If it is due to an addiction, that should NOT be an excuse. As to the charges, it is not unusual to hold someone on a lesser charge and then upgrade the charge to Capitol Murder.
We have made too many excuses for folks. It is time to stop making excuses NOW! It seems odd that for years a much higher percentage of folks lived w/o committing crime(s) but in the last 50 or so years, (when the excuse making was underway full swing) we have all these folks committing crimes, violent crimes and it get worse every year.
I know this young man and he struggled quiet a bit with addictive disorders. Not making any excuses for him;however, if drug addiction is in this equation please find and put an end to the dealers . By all means , if your the police …….do what ya gotta do ..we support you.
So very sad. This lady was just trying to make a living & put food on the table for her family & he shoots & kills her !!!! So senseless !!! Prayers to her friends, co-workers & family
This is terrible, if this guy truly was a part of this crime, he and others are now responsible for taking the life of a lady right before the Christmas holiday. I hope our authorities will charge him with the maximum allowable to send a clear message that as a society we will not tolerate these types of crimes.
Prayers to the family of Ms. Randle.
