TEA RELEASES DETAILED SCHOOL DISTRICT ACCOUNTABILITY RATINGS

The Texas Education Agency has released its next round of school district ratings with the Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR).

The TAPR follows the accountability ratings released in August, which used a rating scale from A-F. These are based on information already released during the summer, but the TAPR gives more detail.  These reports are based on data from the 2017-18 school year.

The additional detail breaks down student success between grade levels. In addition, after viewing the district as a whole with all students, the overview also looks at demographics and subpopulations.  These include white, African-American, Hispanic, Asian, economically disadvantaged, and special education students.

School districts have 90 days to hold a public hearing about the results, once they are announced. The scores are based on the same factors of student achievement, school progress, and closing the gaps.

A total of 46 school districts statewide appealed their accountability scores, with three appeals granted by the state. Snook’s accountability score was bumped up from a D to a C, the Freer school district jumped up from an F to a C, and the Lyford school district moved up from a B to an A.

In August, Brenham ISD received a C rating, and Burton ISD received a B. Across the state, 153 district and charter schools got A ratings, 356 got B’s, 247 earned C’s, 57 received D’s, and 16 were given an F.

The full 2017-18 TAPR can be viewed on the TEA website, through the link here: https://rptsvr1.tea.texas.gov/perfreport/tapr/2018

  1. Why hasn’t Governor Abbott’s recommendation to have more school counselors and for them to be focused on counseling been endorsed? Data shows how suicidal ideation and homicidal ideation has increased substantially.
