HISTORIC DANCE HALLS ON DISPLAY AT CZECH HERITAGE AND CULTURAL CENTER

  

The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center Museum in La Grange is showing a photo tour of historic dance halls.

Presented by the Texas Dance Hall Preservation (TDHP), the 38 photos in the exhibit showcase historic dance halls throughout the state, including five in Fayette County.

A program on the exhibit and TDHP will be held at the Heritage and Cultural Center on Wednesday at 6 p.m.  The program will be presented by past President and current Executive Director of TDHP, Deb Fleming.

Fleming said the east central region of Texas around La Grange and Fayette County acts as “ground zero”, in how it can keep a number of halls that still serve as community centers like they did over one-hundred years ago.  She said these dance halls are “architectural monuments” to the state’s culture and history.

The exhibit can be seen at the Center, at 250 West Fairgrounds Road in La Grange, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  All photos can be purchased from TDHP.
