WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO DISCUSS SHOPPING CENTER PROJECT IN WORKSHOP
Washington County Commissioners will meet Monday morning to talk about the new retail development planned on Highway 290 in Brenham.
Commissioners will hold a workshop session to discuss the project under development by Baker Katz, who is planning a new shopping center on Highway 290 East and Chappell Hill Street. Baker Katz has asked for a sales tax abatement for the project, which commissioners will consider.
The Brenham City Council passed resolutions at a meeting in January, which outlined an agreement with Baker Katz for up to 200,000 square feet of retail development. Those resolutions target the value of the project at over $20 million, benefitting taxing entities in Washington County.
Also in court, commissioners will speak with County Court-at-Law Judge Eric Berg, who has proposed that the county create a full-time official court reporter position. According to County Judge John Durrenberger, Judge Berg has had a difficult time hiring part-time court reporters.
Commissioners will also look to establish a new three-year agreement with the Chappell Hill Chamber of Commerce, for the exchange of EMS services. Durrenberger said this agreement will reduce the Chamber’s contribution to $3,500 a year, making their payment equal to what places like Burton and Washington pay for services.
The county will also look to act on bids received for fleet fuel. In addition, it will go over a series of reports.
Commissioners will meet Monday morning at 10 a.m., at the Washington County Courthouse. The meeting has been rescheduled from Tuesday because of Washington County Day at the Capitol, where several county officials will be introduced at the State Capitol.
