TxDOT CONTRACTOR TO CLOSE FM 389 EASTBOUND BEGINNING MONDAY

Starting Monday, the eastbound travel lanes of FM 389 in Brenham will be closed, and will remain closed for the next five days.

TxDOT’s contractor will close the eastbound lanes from Longwood Drive to Highway 290, in order to expedite a large portion of the remaining pavement.

This $4.2 million rehab work of FM 389 is contracted to Angel Brothers Enterprises out of Navasota.  The project will wide FM 389 to a three-lane roadway, with a continuous two-way left turn lane, along with sidewalks and bicycle lanes between Highway 290 and FM 332 in Brenham.

Eastbound drivers travelling the area should follow the provided detour to bypass the work zone.  Drivers should expect some minor delays.

  1. That’s what you get when you go with the lowest bidder. With all the wet weather it’s been impossible for them to work. I drive there everyday and yes , it is a mess. But letting them have it for a week to finish it up, I am all for it. Now let’s grill em if they don’t finish it with it being shut down all week.

  2. Is this the same contractor that maintains the city of Brenham streets too? The city of Brenham streets continue to disentagrate and continue to fall apart. The city had really nice streets like only five years ago, since then the streets are really bad. Did the city change contractors? I suggest the city go back to the old contractor and street engineer before the whole city falls apart.

    1. Old Timer, that is a State job. City streets are maintained by the City of Brenham. However, in my years of experience in this field I’ve noticed many cities (i.e. College Station) purposely allow their streets to fall into disrepair as an excuse to adopt annual street maintenance taxes. It appears Brenham is following suit. Property owners should expect a new tax within the next couple of years due to this strategy.

  3. I agree 100% I drive 389 every day and seldom do you see anyone working jut talking on the phone or sleeping in one of the pieces of equipment.
The makeshift pig trail that was constructed for the year long temp lanes were obviously built by unskilled labor, the potholes continue to grow deeper and wider but that is most of 389 anyway a whole different issue,
I really hope whoever approves the contractors for construction in our area gets a good lesson from this because this contractor is pathetic. they should have completed this a long time ago.

  4. Good gosh. When will this mess be over? I am so sick and tired of the road construction. It’s funny how you drive by and the workers are always on their cell phones. Who are they talking to? Perhaps we should fine this company for all the tires we have had to replace, since the start of this NEVER ENDING PROJECT!
