BLINN CHEER & DANCE WINS NATIONAL TITLES AGAIN
The Blinn College dance team captured two national titles and the Blinn College cheer team won its sixth consecutive national title at the 2019 National Cheer Association & National Dance Association Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships.
Blinn dance made history by claiming national titles in both Dance Team Performance Open and Pom Division II.
“This is the fifth season that we have tried for two national titles, so it is unbelievable to finally accomplish this goal and we are super excited,” said Sarah Flisowski, spirit coordinator. “We work hard to make our dances better than the year before. I am extremely proud of our team for working so hard and getting this done.”
Blinn took first place in Dance Team Performance Open with a score of 92.22 over second-place Riverside City College (91.12), and won Pom Division II with a score of 93.91 over second-place University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (91.14).
“I am really proud of our team because we worked really hard this year,” sophomore Briana Burton said. “As a team, we bonded throughout every dance and have always lifted each other up to get the energy up, which really made a difference this season.”
Blinn cheer earned its national title in Small Coed Division II with score of 95.42 over second-place Lindenwood University (94.91).
“The team’s heart led them to this because they gave it all they had,” said cheer coach Michael Brewster. “We challenged them and they stuck together to show what the program, the team, and family was all about on finals day. I am extremely proud of this team for coming together.”
Last year, Blinn cheer made history as the first team to ever win five consecutive national championships in Small Coed Division II and now holds the record with six straight.
“It is such a blessing to be able to win this many titles in a row and it is an honor to be a part of this family,” sophomore Ashlyn Beard said. “We had a really strong tumbling opening and that is our team’s strong point, so that really stood out. We came together as a team and knew what we had to do to come out on top.”
