ROUND TOP HOSTING 169TH FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION
The town of Round Top is preparing to celebrate Independence Day for the 169th time.
This year’s Fourth of July celebration will begin at 10 a.m. on the town square, with addresses from local dignitaries. After the Star Spangled Banner, Round Top’s Civil War era cannon will fire, kicking off the parade.
Following the parade, the event sponsor Round Top Rifle Association will serve a barbecue brisket, pork and sausage meal at the Rifle Association Hall.
Entertainment will be provided by the Round Top Brass Band, an accordion jam session, and special guest vocalists Cool Freddie and the Gang. Meanwhile, the Biergarten will be open through the day serving refreshments.
Event organizers say the festivities in Round Top started in 1851 and has continuously been celebrated, even through the Civil War, making it the oldest continuous Fourth of July celebration west of the Mississippi River.
